South side Bellingham neighborhoods

South side Bellingham neighborhoods include Fairhaven, Edgemoor, South Hill, and Happy Valley. South side neighborhoods are some of the most desirable in Bellingham because they are close to the Bay, have good walkability and are home to some of the most unique quaint local businesses and restaurants. No big box stores here. South Side is all about local business, outdoor activities, and parks and trails galore. Drink in the beautiful architecture in this area and the phenomenal views of Bellingham Bay.

South Hill is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Bellingham. Many of the homes in this area were built in the early 1900s and many have views of Bellingham Bay. It is home to Lowell Elementary School.  http://lowell.bellinghamschools.org/

Fairhaven was one of the 3 original cities that merged to become the city of Bellingham in the early 1900s. It is a mix of single family homes, apartments and condos. It is comprised of many historic buildings and home to the Ferry Terminal from which the Alaska Ferry docks. One of the main attractions is Fairhaven Village Green which is at the center of Fairhaven and hosts community events like Farmer’s markets, tree lighting ceremony at Christmas, and outdoor movie night in the summer.

It is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Bellingham and has gorgeous views of the bay and San Juans. It is also one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Bellingham. Fairhaven park (http://www.cob.org/services/recreation/parks-trails/Pages/fairhaven-park.aspx) is located here as well as Clark’s point, a peninsula that extends into Bellingham Bay. There are several public access areas to Bellingham Bay.

Happy Valley typically has the most affordable homes out of the south side neighborhoods. It is dense and diverse in comparison to other neighborhoods in South Bellingham. Filled with different age ranges and a mix between single family homes, multifamily and apartments. It is also home to Happy Valley Elementary School.  http://happyvalley.bellinghamschools.org/

People in Happy Valley can walk to an average of 2 restaurants, bars and coffee shops in 5 minutes.
